Subject: [Practiceimprovement1] Re: Things quiet, how
about updates financially and emotionally
Reply-To: Practiceimprovement1@yahoogroups.com
I just posted an Excel
spreadsheet in the files area titled
Practice_Expenses_Caldwell.xls with my
expenses and income for
Jan-July 2005 so far. These are real numbers. There may be some
small petty cash expenses I have not yet entered, but all the big
ones are in there. Might interest someone thinking of
starting a
minimalist practice. The file was created with Open Office. I think
the formula I used in column B for calculating the percent of total
expenses for the individual rows
in Open Office may not work in Excel for some reason. But you can
still see the total figures.
Started my new practice on Sept. 1, 2004
I had split off from old group when 2 partners built new building
and left me in the old one, which I'm sharing with another F.P. We
are separate business entities, not a partnership. We do share our
office manager and the computer system. I did have patients from
the start, because I have been in town for over 20 years, but I
had stopped taking any new patients several years ago. So my numbers
had dwindled to about the size of a one person minimalist practice
form what I can gather.
I do in-patient care including ICU, and I do backup call for our ER 2
days a month. I do not do any
have a lot of geriatrics, as over 48% of my claims are to Medicare.
Seeing average of 7.8 encounters per day.
It is profitable (barely).
I'm paying my sister in law who is a single parent of 4 children
to be my office manager. My wife is my medical assistant. She
doesn't get paid directly. I dropped one outside source of income in
April. I had been working one
afternoon a week in a FQRHC. Hoping
to make that up by seeing a few more patients in the office.
I'm using my own "open source" free
program for medical records and
billing called "tkFP". If you wouldn't mind
trading some of your time
for money, you might consider trying it too. I'd be happy to have
anyone stop by and see how it works and help you set it up if you are
interested.
