Annie-
My software is "HCFA fill and print" and you can google them and get
the 1-800 #. It is awesome! Was $99 and I have not had more than 1
or 2 denials which I see as opportunities for learning how to prevent those
mistakes again. I do not bill electronically and I get paid 14-30 days by mail
- the old fashioned way still works for me.

On
Pam, what is the
HCFA software you are using?  Do you have a phone # or website for them? Are you doing any electronic submissions?Â
Some of my payers are getting very insistent about going electronic.

OK I must add my 2 cents to the billing on
one's own thread.
I opened in April 2004 and have been
successfully doing my own billing.Â
1) I bought a $99 "HCFA fill and
print" software program for my MAC
2) I hung out with the billing guru at my
last clinic for a couple of hours
      Â
**gathered info, took notes (this is not rocket science)
3) I can call her anytime I have a question
- which is rare (but comforting)
4) New patients data is enetered ONCE and
just press PRINT and MAIL
5) Subsequent visits - I simple change the
diagnosis if I need to and the date
6) PRESS PRINT AND MAIL
7) This is very easy!
The most interesting and beneficial thing
for me is I FINALLY UNDERSTAND THE BEHIND
THE SCENES WORKINGS OF A BILLING DEPARTMENT AND!!! I CAN
TWEAK MY BEHAVIOR
AND CODES TO MINIMIZE LOST INCOME (and
frustration). I am constantly amazed at some
of the questions other docs ask on a QA
committee I am on that indicate they have no idea
how some of our managed care contracts work
(so you can bet they are spinning their
wheels when it comes to billing in these
areas). I feel really smart and in control of the
business aspect of my practice. It is
really great. I highly recommend that everyone do
their own billing atleast for a time so you
can gain the depth/breadth of understanding
that will help your bottom line and your
practice.
Hope this helps!
