OPEN ACCESS WORKS GREAT PART TIME

I am not completely doing it yet but at least half my hours are same day appointments and I work part time no problem.  Just ask my husband..he says I have never been less stressed in my life.  I think I found the perfect formula (for me).  I think this would work well for other part timers with little kids at home etc...

1)  My office phone is AT HOME.  I check it randomly on the way to the kitchen or back
from walking the dog. If you have little kids you could check it after each diaper change.
Basically it integrates my practice into my life so it is not a big burden that takes up a
separate huge block of time away from my family. They see that their phone calls
are returned from my HOME answering machine throughout the day usually in an hour
or two.  They are VERY IMPRESSED when I answer the phone at 10 pm (if I happen to be
working on the computer)  They are VERY IMPRESSED when they get a phone call
returned on Sat afternoon.  I also do admin stuff at home.  I can read a book, knit, brush the cat
(you fill in the blank) while waiting on hold with the insurance co. which I have rarely had to do
since I am getting really good at avoiding any denials or run-ins with them.

2)  my CELL PHONE is for folks to call "on your way to the ER/urgent care" and that takes care
of patients calling me for less urgent things on the cell.

3) My office hours are 3pm-7pm ish on M, W, F (sometimes I'll add in a Tuesday if need be)
I schedule folks for same day or within 24 hours when they call.  I will go in on the
weekends if need be (A one mile bike ride).  WHEN we finish the house remodel
I will see urgent folks at odd times at home. BTW I will also be having cooking classes
from my home and group diabetic visits from my home

Patients are floored by the SERVICE they are getting.  They have never asked me to work more days.  they can come after work at 6 or 7 pm or even on weekends.  The service will only get better if we ever finish the remodel
of our house. All this and I only spend about 15 hours  or less away from home every week.  AND I will probably bring in between 100-150 K next  year.  I think this is incredible!
